Illustrative use case

Project dashboards

Project managers cannot easily reconcile site progress with procurement, document approvals and scheduled milestones.

An illustrative application, not a report of delivered client results.

The operational challenge

Project controls needs to explain whether a milestone is at risk because of site progress, a missing approval or a procurement dependency.

People and information

The project controls lead agrees common work-package identifiers across the approved schedule, document register, procurement records and dated site reports. Document control identifies the current approved revision; site management owns reported progress.

How the workflow could work

Join records by work package and show the status and date of each source. Flag overdue documents and materials against the milestone they affect. Prepare a review brief with an action owner and decision due date; preserve the original source rather than replacing it with a dashboard summary.

Ownership and exceptions

A newer site report that conflicts with an earlier one needs validation by the project owner. A superseded drawing is marked and routed to document control. The project manager decides the recovery action, while engineering sign-off remains with the authorized technical approver.

A useful first evaluation

Rebuild the previous review for one work package and compare it with the accepted project meeting record. Include a late procurement update and conflicting progress reports. The deliverable is a milestone brief with traceable dependencies and an action log the project team can maintain.

Define the baseline

Baseline preparation hours per review, days since the latest validated progress update, and overdue approvals at the reporting cutoff. Track open dependencies until an owner confirms closure. Compare the same reporting cadence and work-package scope; a more current dashboard alone is not evidence of a shorter project.
